《Clinical and translational oncology》published the clinical study of cancer patients’ immunity improvement with the Reishi spore powder of Biosan

On January 6, 2021, Clinical and Translational Oncology published the clinical study results of cancer patients’ immunological improvement with oral taking the Ganoderma lucidum spore powder of Biosan, the study was done by Professor Qingyuan Zhang team of Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital.

The study showed Biosan’s Ganoderma lucidum spore powder increased the patient’s level of cytokines of killing cancer cell – IL-2 & IL-12, while decreasing the patient’s level inflammatory cytokines – IL-10, TGF-β1, HIF-1a, COX2. The study found that low AGR(neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio)/high NLR( albumin-to-globulin ratio) was related to poor progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). A combination of high AGR and low NLR may predicted treatment benefits associated with PFS and OS.

Professor Qingyuan Zhang, the head of the study, is currently vice-president of Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital, director of Medical Oncology. She is the member of the Standing Committee of Clinical Oncology Cooperation Center of China Anti-Cancer Association, the Professional the Committee member of China Anti-Cancer Association Breast Cancer Branch & Lymphoma Branch. This study was supported by the project of the National High-tech Research and Development Program in 2014 — the development of clinical nutrition products for patients with lung cancer and breast cancer ( Project No. 2014AA022206 ).

This study was designed as a randomized controlled double-blind trial to compare the G. lucidum treated group with untreated patients. The study enrolled 120 patients with triple-negative breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer who received postoperative chemotherapy in the hospital. All the enrolled patients were randomly divided into two groups, 63 in the Ganoderma spore powder group and 57 in the placebo control group. Ganoderma spore powder group orally took Biosan’s Ganoderma lucidum spore 2 time a day in the morning and evening, and 2 grams each time, continuously for 6 weeks ( 42 days ). At the beginning and end of the test, the blood samples of the subjects were collected for cell and nucleic acid detection, and the physical conditions of the subjects were recorded daily. The data were statistically analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method.

The national project ( Project 2014AA022206 ) also included the team of Professor Shunchang Jiao, the director of Oncology Department from General Hospital of PLA, and the team of Professor Shengyou Lin, the vice president of Hangzhou Cancer Hospital. Professor Jiao’s team presented the report on the clinical study results of Biosan’s Ganoderma lucidum spore powder for lung cancer and breast cancer patients at the 10^th International Medicinal Fungi Conference in 2019, and received an excellent paper award.
